The half walls keep the space open and allow light to pass easily between the two sections of the room but the columns provide the height that a full wall would to formally define the individual.
Building half wall columns.
Ever since we have been showing you the wrap up of the living room and the built in s plans part one and part two we have had a lot of questions on how we built our columns so we broke the process down for your building pleasure.
Install the back finished columns and put a couple of nails in to hold the column into place along the wall.
Once the frame is in place check to see if it s level.
The great news is that this design can be used for a standalone column or on the corner of a wall.
Measure the completed column to cut the reversible flute on bottom and the mdf base on the top.
Once the wall was cleared i built a simple pilaster which by definition is a column that is attached to a wall so essentially a half column for the half wall.
Measure five equidistant lines down the length of the column to place the colonial panel molding and mark off on column with a pencil.
Use shims to make any adjustments.
